Everyone knows what a baby monitor is and almost all new parents use one too. However, the options that exist in the market baffle anyone because of the variety that exists. It is almost impossible to decide on the specific piece of baby monitor that you want to purchase when you enter the superstore because there are so many of them to choose from. It is therefore a good idea to know and understand the various options that exist so that you can decide before hand and short list the options that you will consider. The basic types of baby monitors have been listed and discussed here to help you comprehend the types.

Types of Baby Monitors

Audio Baby monitors – Baby monitors have been around for many years and they have come a long way. The first baby monitors were analog devices that transmitted audio signals from the nursery to a receiver in the hands of the parents. Then came the digital ones and from one way baby monitors, the market also saw two way baby monitors. The two way baby monitors were useful when mothers wanted to speak softly to their babies and soothe them when they got disturbed in their sleep. It was a great way in which moms could speak to their children and tell them stories even when they were in another room doing some chore.

Video Baby Monitors – These electronic devices allow the mother to see the baby even when she is in another room. The visual sight of the baby can help the mother feel much better in the knowledge that the child is sleeping well. It can also help in addition to the audio versions because you can see when the baby begins to move and rush to the bedside or the nursery so as to be there when the baby opens her eyes. It is also almost impossible to miss out on any issue with regards to the baby when you have a video baby monitor. The latest ones can be connected to a web cam and can be used to see your baby even when you are in the office.

Sensor Baby Monitors – Used to ensure that the baby is breathing well, the sensor monitors can help you remain free of any tension. The monitor is such that the alarm sets off if there is no movement that is detected in 20 seconds. Since SIDS is a significant concern that many parents have, this safety monitor gives a lot of peace of mind to the parent.

There are also variants of each of these baby monitors and while some video monitors come with a web cam facility there are others that have a night camera. Then there are those that have a vibrator facility that can be strapped to your hand so that you can get to know when there is a sound even when you are watching your favorite program on television or listening to music on the ipod.

Your baby is the most important thing in your life and once your child becomes mobile, you start a whole new phase in the life of your house. Gone are the days of glass vases on the floor and masses of items such as craft supplies or tools lying around waiting to be put away. The fastest way to organization in the home is to bring a crawling baby or infant into the picture.

When your baby first comes home, you are often concerned about such items as what type of diapers you are going to use, which bouncy seat will make them most happy and what sort of eating/sleeping pattern will work best for them. You do not actually start to fret about baby proofing your home until you watch your kid move from point A to point b unassisted.

The day that they crawl across the room or take their primary step is the day on which you need to baby proof your home in each way, shape and form. It’ll only take walking into a room to find your youngster heading toward an open wall socket or picking up your fave antique plate to send you into a panic to make instant changes in your home.

When you baby proof your house, you have got to think about baby safety first and home safety 2nd. By this I mean think about what can be damaging to your baby first and what your baby can harm second.

the clear baby safety features you need to start with are wall socket covers, cupboard latches and baby gates. Each socket in your house needs to be covered with a safety plug. Even if they’re in the most remote part of the home, cover them. Each cupboard that contains anything dangerous to your kid or contains things that you do not want thrown all over the floor wants to have a security catch. Keep one cupboard open and fill it with toys so it can be your child’s cupboard and they can open it whenever they want to. Place baby gates at the bottom and top of steps. Close doors to lavatories so they can’t get into the tub or toilets.

Crawl around on the floor at your child’s level and pick up anything that you don’t want your child to have. This includes any breakables as you can not expect a curious kid to not touch things and explore their surroundings. Anything smaller than a ½ ; greenback should be out of their reach to avoid having them put it in their mouth and choking. Photo albums and photos should be out of reach as well or they can become stained, ripped or chewed on. If it does not need to be out then it is maybe best to pack it away for now or at a minimum put it up high out of their reach.

in addition to these proposals, you’ll find other baby proofing ideas and checklists on the web. Even after going thru these checklists you have to notice that each home and each kid is unique and you’ll potentially make more changes as your youngster grows and uncovers other stuff in the home. Keeping them safe is of extreme significant. You can redecorate your house when they are older, except for now your job is to make their home a secure place to live. So learn these basic steps to Childproof your home.

Ah, Shih Tzu puppies….so adorable, filled with boundless energy and curious about any-and-everything around them. Taking the appropriate steps to puppy-proof your home will go a long way in protecting these little ones from harm. Your precautions will also safeguard your belongings from possible damage.

Try to imagine life from a Shih Tzu puppy’s point of view. You might be saying, well how can I do that? Go to each room of your house. Get down on your hands and knees. Take a good look at what your Shih Tzu puppy might be enticed by. Remember, they are new to your home. Shih Tzu puppies are somewhat like toddlers. Shih Tzu puppies will eventually explore their surroundings. Some Shih Tzu puppies will start right away investigating this new place. Other Shih Tzu puppies may take awhile to settle in. Eventually all Shih Tzu puppies will be exploring their new home. They will roam around like a toddler putting things in their mouth and poling around in nooks and crannies. It is your responsibility to check out what there may be in your home that could possibly harm the new Shih Tzu puppy. You are also looking around for those items of yours you do not want the new Shih Tzu puppy to explore.

Cabinets

Watch out for cleaning supplies and personal care items that are stored in low storage areas like kitchen and under-sink bathroom cabinets. The ingredients in these products are extremely harmful and can even cause death. If the cabinet doors can be easily opened by the mouths and paws of Shih Tzu puppies, try to store these items in some other place. Another option is to purchase plastic child-proof cabinet locks that can be temporarily attached to the handles or knobs. These safety locks can usually be found online or in local pet supply (or baby) stores.

Electrical Cords

How tantalizing is an electrical cord especially when it’s looping down from a table or desk? “I can jump at it, pull on it, wrestle with it and even gnaw on it.” Shih Tzu puppies will most likely perform all these tasks with an electrical cord. The dangers here are obvious: a falling lamp or electrocution can cause serious injury or worse. Wrap up loose hanging electrical cords or at least block access to them. And for cords that need to run across the floor, use rubber or plastic cord/cable runners that can be purchased at an office supply outlet or home improvement store. If you don’t mind plastering a nail in the wall, you can also do this, and hang the cord up out of Shih Tzu puppy’s eyesight.

Plants

Household plants are attractive to most Shih Tzu puppies. A lot of household plants are poison to Shih Tzu and dogs in general. Ingesting a bite or two can cause nausea, vomiting and in some cases death. It is probably an excellent idea to re-position your plants so that they are out of reach. You don’t want your Shih Tzu poisoned or made ill by your beautiful plants. Neither do you want your beautiful plants destroyed by the curiosity of a Shih Tzu puppy.

Small Objects Around the House

Be alert to small items around the house that can be swallowed. Items in this category would be coins, jewelry, sewing supplies, batteries, medication and miniature knick-knacks left on low surfaces. Sometimes worse than swallowing these small items is that the Shih Tzu puppy may choke to death. Don’t forget to block access to trash receptacles in the kitchen, your home office and even the bathroom. Shih Tzu puppies love pushing on a trash can until it falls over and then “wow” all that is inside is within reach. This is so amusing to a Shih Tzu puppy; however, it is a disaster to the Shih Tzu puppy’s owner. Take heed now before you bring home your adorable little Shih Tzu puppy and block access to trash bins.

Toilet

To an adventurous Shih Tzu puppy, the challenge of climbing up, up and over the rim of your toilet is a tail-wagging delight. Unfortunately, falling head first into this big, slippery bowl of water is not so delightful especially for a smaller-sized pup. Simple solution: make it a house rule to keep the bathroom door closed at all times.

Puppy-proofing your home before your wonderful little Shih Tzu buddy arrives may seem like a hassle, but providing the safest environment possible is a necessity. After all, your lovable, four-legged bundle of joy is worth it.

Baltimore Honda dealers know that keeping your family safe while traveling is important. New Honda’s are equipped with plenty of safety features, however it remains the responsibility of the driver of each vehicle to ensure these and other devices are used properly. Maryland safety laws require certain conditions are met to increase the safety of passengers, including children. Here we look at tips to keep your kids safe while passengers in a car or truck.

Properly installed child safety seats- One of the easiest ways to keep both children and adults safe in a car is the use of seat belts and child safety seats. In order for child safety seats to do their job, they must be installed correctly. Your local Honda dealer in Baltimore can inspect the seat and ensure it is properly installed.

Secure loose objects- In the event of an accident, flying objects inside the passenger compartment of your Honda can be more dangerous than the accident itself. Traveling with kids often comes with strollers, diaper bags and other items that could be lethal if tossed about in an accident. For this reason, always use a cargo net or secure loose objects to reduce the risk of injury from flying objects.

Engage child safety features- Most newer Honda’s have safety features which allow the driver to control windows and doors. Engage these features to prevent curious children from opening a door while in motion or throwing objects that could be dangerous to other drivers out the window.

If you are unsure how a certain safety feature works or if you have taken all the necessary steps to “child-proof” your car or truck, your Maryland Honda dealer can answer questions or provide additional tips.

Small parts from toys are an ever present choking hazard to children under 3, because children put everything in their mouths. Despite the measures in place to protect children, 15 die annually from choking (CPSC#04-216). We don’t know how many parents/caregivers find and remove small parts from children’s mouths, without reporting the incident.

Government and Industry Safeguards:

Small parts are not allowed in toys that are intended for use by children under 3. So how come children die every year from choking? The answer is not simple and sometimes involves conditions that are beyond the control of government and industry… but not beyond your control!

Small Parts Testing:

Toys for children under 3 first undergo a battery of “use and abuse” tests, which are designed to simulate the way children use them. One test is to pull attached parts with 15 pounds of force (25 lbs. for European Tests). The objective is to identify parts which can come off during play which then create a choking hazard. Naturally, these toys should not have small parts to begin with. A cylinder (which represents a child’s throat) is used to determine if a part is “small” or not. Parts which fit wholly inside on the cylinder, uncompressed, are classified as small parts and cause a product FAILURE! If the part remains attached to the main toy, then the whole toy must fit in the cylinder to fail. Paper and fabric parts are not tested. However, a small stuffed part IS tested.

Small Parts Test Cylinder Make One Yourself

You can make a small part test cylinder at home, by cutting a toilet paper core. Your cylinder should be 2-1/4″ tall. Obviously it’s not the same but here’s what you can check.

- If a part does NOT fit wholly within the cylinder, then it’s NOT A SMALL PART.

- If a part fits wholly inside, it may or may not be a small part. The toilet roll has a larger diameter and does not have the angled bottom.

- So this test is effective to determine parts which are not choking hazards for children under three.

Problems Arise Which Testing Can’t Identify

In my experience there are conditions which can cause small parts to become detached weeks or even months later. * Teething on attached parts (like buttons) can weaken and even tear the stitching which holds them. * Repeated washing may weaken fabrics and threads, permitting attached small parts to come off with 15 or less pounds of pull. Also toys that are already in your home, for children 3 and over, may have small parts. Unfortunately, these can easily wind up in your young child’s mouth.

What Should You Do To Prevent This?

Here are my recommendations. You have likely child-proofed your home already, but now it’s time to stand guard!

1. Buy a small part test cylinder NOW. It is less than $5.00.

2. Check for small parts attached to the toys that your child currently plays with. You’ll soon know which parts could become a choking hazard, if they ever become detached.

3. Imagine the weight of three five pound bags of sugar. This is the force you should use to pull on attached parts.Pull on the parts to see if they come off or not.

4. If your child is in the height of teething, I recommend eliminating all toys which have small parts attached. Even if the parts withstand a pull today, repeated washing or continued teething may allow them come off and wind up in your child’s mouth.

5. Inspect toys periodically after washing or continuous use/mouthing.

6. Alert older children in the home of these hazards. By simply showing and demonstrating which of their toys could cause harm to a younger sibling, you reduce the risk and even gain another watchful eye.

Whether you are a retired teacher looking for a way to supplement your income or you are an Early Childhood college graduate, opening a child safety consulting business can be a viable way to earn a living. First-time parents often need help learning how they can child-proof their homes, making them safer for their new arrival. Day care facilities also use consultants to help them maintain compliance with state and local health codes. Even large companies that offer daycare services on their grounds may need the help of a child safety consultant.

When getting started, your first steps should include drafting a business plan. You will need this document in order to secure loans and grants for opening your own business. When writing, be as thorough as possible. You need to come with a startup plan that is feasible and shows that you have taken the time to do your research. Show that you are knowledgeable about the local market, budget, finances, and long-term goals.

Get the details sorted out too. Who will design your website? Will you need a company car? Will there be other employees in your business? Do you need lanyards or an ID clip for a photo ID? What services will you offer? How will you promote your new company?

There is certainly a lot to consider before you get started. In addition to these things, you need to determine what products and services your new startup will offer. Here are a few to consider:

• Sell books or e-books on childproofing

• Offer community service courses regarding child safety for expectant parents

• Offer day care consulting services

• Hold community events offering things like child ID kits and fingerprinting services

• Sell home safety products such as gates, locks, other childproof materials

As a training consultant, it is imperative that you be an expert in your field. In order to present yourself as an authority in this area, it is a good idea to become a member of professional child safety organizations. This membership can help you stay current when it comes to child safety laws, regulations, and even product recalls.

Winning Your Clients and Keeping Them

It can be difficult operating a startup business no matter what field you are in. Hard work and long hours will probably be necessary for a while until you get your business established. A marketing strategy is a key component of your business plan. Work with marketing experts to determine the best way you can recruit and retain your client base. The goal is to spend as little as possible on getting new clients in order to maximize your profits.

In addition to making marketing and advertising business plans, start networking. Working with other business professionals can solidify your professional place in the business world. Get to know the owners of baby consignment shops and private birthing coaches. These other professionals can help you grow your business through recommendations and word-of-mouth advertising.

Expecting a new baby can be an exciting time. Childproofing your home can be an overlooked, but important, task. Between decorating the baby’s new room, shopping for the necessities of the baby’s first days, and your own day-to-day responsibilities, it’s not surprising that many new parents forget about this step in the preparation. Many children are injured or killed in the home every year in ways that could have been prevented by simple and inexpensive child proofing devices. This is a happy time for your family and you want to be sure that your home will be a safe environment for your baby before he or she arrives. Outlined below are a few tips on how to increase home security for your child.

 Covering outlets are one of the first things people think about when they think of childproofing a home. It is important to cover your outlets to prevent electrocution. However, outlet covers can also be a choking hazard. As an alternative, look into replacing them with outlets that include a sliding safety latch. Unlike, the covers, the latches cannot be removed.

 Make sure the batteries in your smoke detectors have been replaced recently. It’s also possible to purchase batteries that will last for ten years. This is an important and often forgotten aspect of home security.

 Sharp edges on furniture can be a hazard in the home. All sharp edges and corners can be covered with bumpers to soften the blow if a child were to fall into them.

 Many parents use safety gates in the home to prevent access to the outside, a stairwell, or a room in the house that is unsafe for the child. Make sure the gate you choose is up to date and secure when it is installed so it does not add an additional hazard to your child.

 Cords from blinds or shades can be replaced with a tassel as opposed to a loop, which could become wrapped around a child’s neck.

 Another important aspect of providing a safe home for your child is home security from outside influences. A home alarm system and monitoring servicing can provide the safety to the home that parents cannot.

 Keep important emergency numbers, for example the number for poison control or for your home alarm system provider, in a place where they can be easily accessed, like on the refrigerator.

 Be prepared in emergencies, not just by having the necessary numbers handy, but by making sure the house is equipped with things like fire distinguishers and first aid kits.

 Carbon monoxide detectors are important to monitor levels in your home and prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

 Safety latches and locks can be purchased for the cabinets and drawers in your home and will prevent your child from gaining access to things such as sharp objects or cleaning supplies.

It is impossible to watch your child 24 hours a day, but there are things you can do to help to create a safer environment for your child. Follow these simple steps to a safer and happier home for you and your child.

Having a new child can be a happy and exciting time. Make sure your family is protected with the best alarm systems. With adt, you know you are with a company that cares about the safety of your family.

Steps can be taken to ensure that various components around your home are safe for youngsters. For example, baby walkers can become very dangerous for children, as they can result in children falling down stairs. Ensure that safety gates are installed properly and that the cribs meet current standards for safety. Gates that fasten to walls are ideal for the tops of stairs, while spring-loaded gates are a superior choice for the base of stairs. Next, check various aspects of cribs, such as the mattress, the screws, and the frame. In regards to bathtub safety, keep these tips in mind: A child can drown in just a few centimetres (1 inch) of water, within the duration of seconds! Within seconds, hot water from a faucet can burn a person’s skin. In fact, a child’s skin burns in a quarter of the time required for an adult’s skin to be burned! Before placing your child in the bathtub’s water, use your elbow to test the temperature. When running a bath for your child, consistently begin and complete the process, with cold water. If you must leave the bathroom while bathing your child, take your son or daughter long with you. Instruct your child to sit in the bathtub 100% of the time. While certain components in a house can pose threats to children, remember that child safety products from a child safety store can help to secure their safety. Be careful about what your child puts in his or her mouth. To prevent your child from choking and strangling on objects, remember that if a child can fit an object in his or her mouth, your child could choke on it. Therefore, keep all tiny objects out of reach of infants and toddlers. Objects whose consuming pose a threat to young children, include small toy parts, seeds, chips, small candies and nuts, popcorn, wrapping paper, batteries, broken balloons, and hot dogs. To prevent your young children from choking on food, shred or cut foods that is hard and round, into narrow strips. Also, children must always chew their food slowly and sit up while eating meals or snacks. Lastly, as a parent, it is wise to master the indicators of choking and what steps to take when it occurs.

In addition to choking on tiny objects, remember that the majority of homes include 200-300 poisons. Teach children the hazard symbols on containers, so they will realize the danger of consuming such products. Keep items such as cleaners; nail polish; holly and mistletoe; perfume; and cosmetics away from children, as they become poisonous when consumed. Even party leftovers certain medicines, and holiday ornaments can be poisonous to children! Lastly, remember that “child-resistant” caps vary from “child-proof” versions.

Child safety consulting can be a lucrative field. There are a variety of settings where child safety consulting services are needed. New parents may need consultations on how to child-proof their homes. Day care facilities might be looking for ways to make their facilities safer for the children they care for. Large companies with day care facilities for their employees may also have a need for your consulting services.

The first step is to write up a business plan. If you want to apply for a small business loan or grant, you won’t get far without a written plan. It can take a lot of time to come up with a workable plan. Take enough time to make sure your plan is thorough. Writing a business plan will require very specific knowledge about many topics like your business, local markets, threats, finances, and marketing goals just to name a few.

Iron out the details. Will you have a website? Will you have a company car? Will you have any employees? Will you need ID badges on lanyards or an ID clip for additional workers? What services will you offer?

It’s a lot to think about. Here are a few services and products that you might want to offer to your clients:

Literature on child safety and reference materials
Courses on child safety and child-proofing for new parents
Consulting services for day care facilities
ID Kits and fingerprinting services for children
Child safety products for the home including outlet cover, baby gates, etc.

As a consultant who offers training, you need the right background and training so that you can promote yourself as an expert and authority on child safety. It’s a good idea to join professional organizations and other networking organizations to stay abreast of the latest trends and news regarding child safety consulting and child safety products.

Building and Keeping Your Customer Base

No matter what business you are in, starting up is very difficult. It can require a lot of hard work to find and keep your customers. As a business owner it is important for you to develop a marketing strategy and use important business metrics to determine the effectiveness of your recruiting methods. For instance, you don’t want to spend an average of $100 to gain a new client when you only expect that client to spend about $75 on your company.

You might find it best to develop a niche market. Instead of providing services for all the options listed above, you might find it’s easier to concentrate on seminars for new parents. Building your business base and then expanding can help you maintain financial stability. Not even the largest corporations try to sell everything to the entire population.

Beyond marketing, it is a good idea to start networking. Let birthing coaches and baby retail stores know about the services you provide. Baby and children’s tradeshows and expos are another great way to advertise your business.
