Do you have a beautiful pool in your backyard? No matter how proud of it, you must be highly anxious if you have a small child or if you own a little pet. You can bid good bye to all your worries, all thanks to the pool fence, which shall provide absolute safety. These fences have been particularly designed to enhance safety by placing it around the pools. It can actually be helpful in saving various accidents and thus keep you safe and relaxed. Depending on your requirements there are various types of fences that you can opt for, like, tubular steel fence, removable mesh pool safety fence, baby guard swimming pool safety fence, wood fence, aluminum tube fence and glass fence.

Now, you may choose from amongst the various mentioned above, depending on your budget or needs. The removable mesh pool safety fence is also referred to as pool fencing, pool barrier, kiddie fence, safety fence, and child fence. These fences have been particularly designed to be placed around swimming pools to ensure the prevention of access of pets and children. The removable fences have various sections right from 6′ to 15′ in length and have a child proof latch at the top.

This kind of fencing comes in various colors, white, black, brown, tan, and green so you may pick your favorite one. Fences around the pools are generally employed by one and all, as it secures the safety of the kids. It is very interesting to know that certain jurisdictions even have laws as far as the fences around the pools are concerned. In Australia, for instance, each state and territory has to comply with the AS1926.1 1993 or 2007 standards pool fencing laws. In Queensland every swimming pool needs to have a fence around it. The only exceptions to the rule are those that have been allowed and freedom by the local council.

The need of pool fence being stressed by law itself stresses on its importance. Though it is very important that you make use of these fences, you have the freedom to choose what type of fence you would like to employ and the choice that you have is vast. You can actually choose these fences as per your taste or even in an away that would make your backyard look more trendy and appealing. Thus, you may surf the internet to browse through the varying collection of fences and get one placed around your swimming pool.

Baltimore Honda dealers know that keeping your family safe while traveling is important. New Honda’s are equipped with plenty of safety features, however it remains the responsibility of the driver of each vehicle to ensure these and other devices are used properly. Maryland safety laws require certain conditions are met to increase the safety of passengers, including children. Here we look at tips to keep your kids safe while passengers in a car or truck.

Properly installed child safety seats- One of the easiest ways to keep both children and adults safe in a car is the use of seat belts and child safety seats. In order for child safety seats to do their job, they must be installed correctly. Your local Honda dealer in Baltimore can inspect the seat and ensure it is properly installed.

Secure loose objects- In the event of an accident, flying objects inside the passenger compartment of your Honda can be more dangerous than the accident itself. Traveling with kids often comes with strollers, diaper bags and other items that could be lethal if tossed about in an accident. For this reason, always use a cargo net or secure loose objects to reduce the risk of injury from flying objects.

Engage child safety features- Most newer Honda’s have safety features which allow the driver to control windows and doors. Engage these features to prevent curious children from opening a door while in motion or throwing objects that could be dangerous to other drivers out the window.

If you are unsure how a certain safety feature works or if you have taken all the necessary steps to “child-proof” your car or truck, your Maryland Honda dealer can answer questions or provide additional tips.

Small parts from toys are an ever present choking hazard to children under 3, because children put everything in their mouths. Despite the measures in place to protect children, 15 die annually from choking (CPSC#04-216). We don’t know how many parents/caregivers find and remove small parts from children’s mouths, without reporting the incident.

Government and Industry Safeguards:

Small parts are not allowed in toys that are intended for use by children under 3. So how come children die every year from choking? The answer is not simple and sometimes involves conditions that are beyond the control of government and industry… but not beyond your control!

Small Parts Testing:

Toys for children under 3 first undergo a battery of “use and abuse” tests, which are designed to simulate the way children use them. One test is to pull attached parts with 15 pounds of force (25 lbs. for European Tests). The objective is to identify parts which can come off during play which then create a choking hazard. Naturally, these toys should not have small parts to begin with. A cylinder (which represents a child’s throat) is used to determine if a part is “small” or not. Parts which fit wholly inside on the cylinder, uncompressed, are classified as small parts and cause a product FAILURE! If the part remains attached to the main toy, then the whole toy must fit in the cylinder to fail. Paper and fabric parts are not tested. However, a small stuffed part IS tested.

Small Parts Test Cylinder Make One Yourself

You can make a small part test cylinder at home, by cutting a toilet paper core. Your cylinder should be 2-1/4″ tall. Obviously it’s not the same but here’s what you can check.

- If a part does NOT fit wholly within the cylinder, then it’s NOT A SMALL PART.

- If a part fits wholly inside, it may or may not be a small part. The toilet roll has a larger diameter and does not have the angled bottom.

- So this test is effective to determine parts which are not choking hazards for children under three.

Problems Arise Which Testing Can’t Identify

In my experience there are conditions which can cause small parts to become detached weeks or even months later. * Teething on attached parts (like buttons) can weaken and even tear the stitching which holds them. * Repeated washing may weaken fabrics and threads, permitting attached small parts to come off with 15 or less pounds of pull. Also toys that are already in your home, for children 3 and over, may have small parts. Unfortunately, these can easily wind up in your young child’s mouth.

What Should You Do To Prevent This?

Here are my recommendations. You have likely child-proofed your home already, but now it’s time to stand guard!

1. Buy a small part test cylinder NOW. It is less than $5.00.

2. Check for small parts attached to the toys that your child currently plays with. You’ll soon know which parts could become a choking hazard, if they ever become detached.

3. Imagine the weight of three five pound bags of sugar. This is the force you should use to pull on attached parts.Pull on the parts to see if they come off or not.

4. If your child is in the height of teething, I recommend eliminating all toys which have small parts attached. Even if the parts withstand a pull today, repeated washing or continued teething may allow them come off and wind up in your child’s mouth.

5. Inspect toys periodically after washing or continuous use/mouthing.

6. Alert older children in the home of these hazards. By simply showing and demonstrating which of their toys could cause harm to a younger sibling, you reduce the risk and even gain another watchful eye.

MOST HAZARDOUS LIST: Pom-poms, balloons (uninflated/broken), marbles, games with balls To Report A Small Part or any toy hazard/incident go to: CPSC.gov

Whether you are a retired teacher looking for a way to supplement your income or you are an Early Childhood college graduate, opening a child safety consulting business can be a viable way to earn a living. First-time parents often need help learning how they can child-proof their homes, making them safer for their new arrival. Day care facilities also use consultants to help them maintain compliance with state and local health codes. Even large companies that offer daycare services on their grounds may need the help of a child safety consultant.

When getting started, your first steps should include drafting a business plan. You will need this document in order to secure loans and grants for opening your own business. When writing, be as thorough as possible. You need to come with a startup plan that is feasible and shows that you have taken the time to do your research. Show that you are knowledgeable about the local market, budget, finances, and long-term goals.

Get the details sorted out too. Who will design your website? Will you need a company car? Will there be other employees in your business? Do you need lanyards or an ID clip for a photo ID? What services will you offer? How will you promote your new company?

There is certainly a lot to consider before you get started. In addition to these things, you need to determine what products and services your new startup will offer. Here are a few to consider:

• Sell books or e-books on childproofing

• Offer community service courses regarding child safety for expectant parents

• Offer day care consulting services

• Hold community events offering things like child ID kits and fingerprinting services

• Sell home safety products such as gates, locks, other childproof materials

As a training consultant, it is imperative that you be an expert in your field. In order to present yourself as an authority in this area, it is a good idea to become a member of professional child safety organizations. This membership can help you stay current when it comes to child safety laws, regulations, and even product recalls.

Winning Your Clients and Keeping Them

It can be difficult operating a startup business no matter what field you are in. Hard work and long hours will probably be necessary for a while until you get your business established. A marketing strategy is a key component of your business plan. Work with marketing experts to determine the best way you can recruit and retain your client base. The goal is to spend as little as possible on getting new clients in order to maximize your profits.

In addition to making marketing and advertising business plans, start networking. Working with other business professionals can solidify your professional place in the business world. Get to know the owners of baby consignment shops and private birthing coaches. These other professionals can help you grow your business through recommendations and word-of-mouth advertising.

Expecting a new baby can be an exciting time. Childproofing your home can be an overlooked, but important, task. Between decorating the baby’s new room, shopping for the necessities of the baby’s first days, and your own day-to-day responsibilities, it’s not surprising that many new parents forget about this step in the preparation. Many children are injured or killed in the home every year in ways that could have been prevented by simple and inexpensive child proofing devices. This is a happy time for your family and you want to be sure that your home will be a safe environment for your baby before he or she arrives. Outlined below are a few tips on how to increase home security for your child.

 Covering outlets are one of the first things people think about when they think of childproofing a home. It is important to cover your outlets to prevent electrocution. However, outlet covers can also be a choking hazard. As an alternative, look into replacing them with outlets that include a sliding safety latch. Unlike, the covers, the latches cannot be removed.

 Make sure the batteries in your smoke detectors have been replaced recently. It’s also possible to purchase batteries that will last for ten years. This is an important and often forgotten aspect of home security.

 Sharp edges on furniture can be a hazard in the home. All sharp edges and corners can be covered with bumpers to soften the blow if a child were to fall into them.

 Many parents use safety gates in the home to prevent access to the outside, a stairwell, or a room in the house that is unsafe for the child. Make sure the gate you choose is up to date and secure when it is installed so it does not add an additional hazard to your child.

 Cords from blinds or shades can be replaced with a tassel as opposed to a loop, which could become wrapped around a child’s neck.

 Another important aspect of providing a safe home for your child is home security from outside influences. A home alarm system and monitoring servicing can provide the safety to the home that parents cannot.

 Keep important emergency numbers, for example the number for poison control or for your home alarm system provider, in a place where they can be easily accessed, like on the refrigerator.

 Be prepared in emergencies, not just by having the necessary numbers handy, but by making sure the house is equipped with things like fire distinguishers and first aid kits.

 Carbon monoxide detectors are important to monitor levels in your home and prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Child safety consulting can be a lucrative field. There are a variety of settings where child safety consulting services are needed. New parents may need consultations on how to child-proof their homes. Day care facilities might be looking for ways to make their facilities safer for the children they care for. Large companies with day care facilities for their employees may also have a need for your consulting services.

The first step is to write up a business plan. If you want to apply for a small business loan or grant, you won’t get far without a written plan. It can take a lot of time to come up with a workable plan. Take enough time to make sure your plan is thorough. Writing a business plan will require very specific knowledge about many topics like your business, local markets, threats, finances, and marketing goals just to name a few.

Iron out the details. Will you have a website? Will you have a company car? Will you have any employees? Will you need ID badges on lanyards or an ID clip for additional workers? What services will you offer?

It’s a lot to think about. Here are a few services and products that you might want to offer to your clients:

Literature on child safety and reference materials
Courses on child safety and child-proofing for new parents
Consulting services for day care facilities
ID Kits and fingerprinting services for children
Child safety products for the home including outlet cover, baby gates, etc.

As a consultant who offers training, you need the right background and training so that you can promote yourself as an expert and authority on child safety. It’s a good idea to join professional organizations and other networking organizations to stay abreast of the latest trends and news regarding child safety consulting and child safety products.

Building and Keeping Your Customer Base

No matter what business you are in, starting up is very difficult. It can require a lot of hard work to find and keep your customers. As a business owner it is important for you to develop a marketing strategy and use important business metrics to determine the effectiveness of your recruiting methods. For instance, you don’t want to spend an average of $100 to gain a new client when you only expect that client to spend about $75 on your company.

You might find it best to develop a niche market. Instead of providing services for all the options listed above, you might find it’s easier to concentrate on seminars for new parents. Building your business base and then expanding can help you maintain financial stability. Not even the largest corporations try to sell everything to the entire population.

Beyond marketing, it is a good idea to start networking. Let birthing coaches and baby retail stores know about the services you provide. Baby and children’s tradeshows and expos are another great way to advertise your business.

If you’ve decided to focus on child care for you day care business, here are some things that might come in handy for your business future.

There are actually many types of day care centers. They range from simple child care day care, adult care and special-needs day care. Each comes with its own unique challenges and rewards. If you’ve decided that your area of expertise is child day care, then this article is a perfect read for you.

Child day care centers are not just the day care centers that we are all familiar with, with play groups for babies and toddlers. Even older children need care when not at school or when their parents are away. Some families prefer this option to babysitter, who may sometimes be unreliable.

There are facility and family day care centers. Facility day care centers are for older children, at least 12 years of age and above. For family day care centers, the children are normally younger and the licensing or state laws are more stringent. Whatever kind of child day care you choose to operate, a safe, child-friendly environment ensures that parents will feel safe leaving the light of their lives in your hands. Make sure to choose an age group of children that you enjoy being with, because it will show. Taking care of toddlers when you really want to help mold pre-teen minds might dampen your enthusiasm for your business.

Remember, it doesn’t matter if you run your day care from your home or lease a space. What is important is that you provide quality child care in a clean and safe environment.

This means that your home or space should be child-proofed, well lit and ventilated and fenced in. If you’re fortunate enough to have a garden or yard that the children can use or a playground, make sure that it is some distance from the street and that the children (no matter what age) can’t wander off. You’re responsible for their safety and well-being while they are in your care. Taking rudimentary precautions will prevent you from losing a child or from the daily accidents that happen to children, like the inevitable Foreign Object up the Nose.

Your day care center should meet your state requirements in order to acquire a license. This differs with every state, so be sure to brush up on your state law. No matter what kind of age group you cater to, it’s important to know this before you start your day care business because it will determine what kind of activities, design and other pertinent factors that your business will have. It will even help you decide what kind of employees you need to hire. Taking a little time to learn about the different child care you can administer will do wonders for your day care business.

Many parents will be concerned about the health of a child long before it is born. The parents will attend parenting classes to learn how to care for the child and learn about the right nourishment sources. This worry and anxiety is in the best interest of the children because the parents only want to ensure the baby is born healthy. They know that improper nutrition habits can have significant impact on the way a child’s body grows and develops and how internal organs mature and develop over a nine-month gestational period.

A new parent will be diligent about questioning any ailment a child displays through a facial expression. Some are so concerned about the health of the child that they miss out on the enjoyment of seeing a child discover new things. Every movement with a jerky motion is cause for alarm in new parents, but a parent who has had several children would know that there was no cause for alarm. The emotions and behaviors that parents come to know as babies might blind them to changes that would be considered abnormal for a toddler.

To help guide new parents in the right path for tracking emotions and behaviors in an infant, many pediatricians have created wall maps with the age ranges listed for each developmental phase of the baby’s life. The charts will also offer helpful recommendations on the feeding needs for an infant and toddler to help alleviate parent’s health concerns for a child that they think is not eating enough, and in some cases, is displaying an appetite that is considered large at times.

Parents health concerns for a child might lead them to enroll in first aid classes that teach the artificial respiration techniques used on a baby and a small child. Parents will usually child-proof the home to keep the child safe by using plugs on light receptacles and child gates on stairwells and other areas where a child might tumble while toddling about. A parent’s health concerns will notice if the child is off balance too because they were taught to recognize the signs of an ear infection in the parenting classes that they attended.

Some children might display medical problems shortly after birth such as trouble breathing and this problem is generally attributed to an early birth or a low birth weight. This medical problem might resurface later in life in the form of asthma and parents health concerns for a child will be quelled some when the physician grants a reassurance that the child will probably outgrow the breathing difficulties as they age. Parents with asthmatic children will often quit using household sprays and certain cleansers on clothes and prohibit smoking in the home.

Some medical problems can serve justice to health concerns because the problems are life threatening. Certain sleep disorders will cause a child to forget to breathe but doctor’s offer parents some help by authorizing a sleep alarm as a safety device which will alert parents to any breathing problems that occur during the night. Heart problems occur in children too and there are pacemakers, which can be placed in the child’s chest so that an electric charge can regulate the pace at which the heart beats and parents can rest knowing it is there.

This article is about the growing number of holiday homes that have not got proper safety measures in place when you take your family on holiday. This comes on the back of extensive research which concluded 45% of parents feel they need to be more safety conscious on a holiday with young children than they would be at home.

These reports were found in a survey by a mum whose own two year old son fell into an unenclosed swimming pool on holiday.

The survey also revealed that almost a quarter of parents felt they had been on family holidays where no basic safety equipment or features were provided.

The parents polled in this survey were also asked to rank holiday safety features in order of importance. Enclosed swimming pools topped the list, followed by enclosed play spaces, stairgates, lifeguards, electric plug socket covers and baby monitors.

Yet, of the holidays that parents had been on with young children, only 45.7% had enclosed swimming pools, 28.7% had stairgates and only 16.1% had electric plug socket covers.

It’s a fact, most holiday properties are not designed with young children in mind. Parents go to great lengths to make their homes child proof but the same precautions aren’t usually in place on a holiday.

This makes it incredibly hard for parents who are usually in dire need of a real break to actually relax. So, we researched a top ten list of things to do to child proof your holiday.

TOP 10 TIPS

1. If the pool is unenclosed, request a room that doesn’t open directly onto it.

2. Ask whether you can hire stairgates or a playpen.

3. Take your own baby monitors and be sure to get an international travel adaptor.

4. Take a roll of masking tape to stick over unused electric plug sockets.

5. Ensure your children wear buoyancy aids at all times when in the pool area.

6. Take a travelling first aid kit with you.

7. Opt for babysitting rather than baby listening services.

8. Close curtains or blinds to patio doors to stop children accidently running into them.

9. If you have small children purchase cupboard ties to stop them opening kitchen doors.

10. Finally, take plenty of sunblock, even in cold weather the sun can burn exposed skin.

To sum up, just make sure you have a check list of things to take run through before you pack your suitcase, alternatively don’t hesitate to print off the list above.

Once you’ve run through your checklist, relax and enjoy your holiday!

So you have decided to start a home day care, but you are not quite sure of the day care license requirements. It is very important that even before you start your business plan you become familiar with these requirements.

There is no point developing your business plan and even applying for start up grants, when you can not be licensed to run your own day care service. You will be just wasting your own valuable time.

You must be at least 21 years old in order to run a home day care. Any background checks should come out clean as this is the only way to ensure that the children and families you interact with are safe. A Tuberculosis skin test is also required to show that you have been vaccinated and are negative for the disease.

You need to be well trained including in first aid and CPR just in case anything was to happen to one of the kids, in which case you would know what exactly to do in that situation.

If you have a pet in your home, your pet must be up to date on all vaccinations and free from rabies. Your home must also be child proof with hazardous materials kept at least five feet above the ground in a locked cabinet. All outlets must be covered with appropriate devices and also they may not be a felon living in the home.

These are some of the day care license requirements that you need to be aware of and try to correct before you apply for your license. If you meet the requirements you should not encounter any problems at all.
