When you have toddlers and young children and they are in the walking stage, it can be very easy for them to get into things that they should not be getting into. However, in spite of that, there are ways that parents can prevent their children from getting in harm’s way.

Toddlers and young children are naturally curious. Something would be wrong with them if they weren’t. One thing that they like to do is open cabinet doors and look inside. They will go so far as to take things out, not knowing the dangers that await them.

Since they are only of a certain size, they will try to open the cabinets that are closest to the floor. For this reason, child safety cabinet latches are needed to keep them out of harm’s way.

Since children like to get to things that are within their height and reach, another thing that should be covered up are electrical outlets. It’s easy for them to stick their tiny fingers in the holes and possibly get injured or even worse, electrocuted.

The wires and other items inside those outlets are live and if they are tampered with, it can cause some serious consequences. Using outlet safety plugs can help keep your child’s sticky and curious fingers away from danger.

Since a child’s body is still delicate, when they bump into things, such as sharp corners, it can hurt them. Just think about how much pain adults feel when they bump into a sharp corner. For toddlers and small children, it can be twice as painful. Using safety corner bumpers can help them not to feel that excruciating pain as they cut around the corner and hit that pointed area.

Using doorknob grips can prevent your toddler or young child from going into rooms that they should not be in. Rooms such as entry to a basement or a bedroom should be off limits. Those are rooms that should be kept under lock and key.

Using doorknob grips can help to keep them from entering. This will prevent them from going into dangerous territory or experiencing serious injury.

It’s important that you child-proof your home as much as possible. The more you set up barriers and precautions, the better chance you have of your child being safe. You won’t have to concern yourself about your child getting hurt or seriously injured. You will have made your home a safe haven for them. With a child care safety kit, you will be the better parent for that.

So you’ve moved into a new home, or you’ve been in your home for sometime and you’re expecting a child. There’s no need to fret that your home is inadequate and or that you may need to move into something that is safer for your new baby. Of course, if you have you’re mind set on a new home, than by all means go for it. But- there are many things you can do to improve the safety and functionality of your home so as to provide a safe and happy haven for your new child.

Here are some general ideas, that will provide safety for you child in their first 12 months. Of course not everything has to be done right away- but, whatever you can get done before baby’s arrival will benefit you in the long run- as you’re apt to be pretty busy once your child arrives.

- On your infant’s changing table install a safety belt and always make you use it. Likewise, ensure there are safety belt on swings or bouncy seats.

- A plush rug under a changing table or crib is a good idea as a cushion, in the case of a fall.

- Keep nigh lights at a safe distance from bedding, draperies or crib so as to prevent any potentials fires.

- It’s a good idea to eventually shorten draperies and blind cords- so that your child cannot grab them.

- Lock any and all potentially dangerous substances in a high cabinet.

- Bookshelves, entertainment centers and large desks should ideally be secured to the walls, to prevent them toppling when your child begins to use such things anchors to stand up.

- Eventually you’ll want to install hardware-mounted baby gates at the tops and bottoms of stairways.

- Keep household plants out of reach of children. Know the names of the plants you have, and what their effects are, if consumed.

- Electrical outlets should be covered with child proof outlet covers.

- Screened barriers should eventually be placed around fireplaces, radiators and portable space heaters.

- Turn down your hot water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

- Cupboard doors within reach of your child, should be secured with childproof locks. Test them repeatedly as some locks work better than others.

- Assess where all the sharp edges are on your furniture or fireplace. Try to cover these with throw pillows, blankets or by attaching some foam rubber to the edges.

- Another general note, is to scamper through your house on your hands and knees and just check out any potential dangers from this level. You’d be surprised what you find from a child’s perspective.

- Use a toilet lid lock or alternately ensure that your bathroom is locked at all time. Toilets can be dangerous drowning zones, for curious toddlers.

- Install window guards and remove all furniture that might allow for a child to climb and open a window.

- Cover doorknobs with safety covers and purchase finger protectors to prevent the finger pinch hazard.

- Check and make sure all electrical cords are free of breaks, holes end kinks. Cord bundlers can be purchased and then you can secure cords to furniture so they cannot be pulled.

- Ensure that every area of your home is equipped with “to-code” smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

- Remove fridge magnets as they can fall and may be small enough to pose a choking risk, if ingested by your toddler.

- If you own pool, it should be properly gated and with a gate lock.

These are all simple measures you can follow to create a safe, child-proof home. Again, there’s no need to panic, or assume that your home is not up to “family” snuff. Just make sure it is, by sussing out any potential dangers and remedying them sooner, rather than later.

Search for La Veta real estate in Southern Colorado at LaVetaForSale.com.

Let’s face it, one of the main worries parents have when their kids are learning to walk is the child falling against furniture with sharp edges. You can child proof your living room, den, bed rooms, even your dining room table. A child bean bag chair can bring safety and comfort to your child’s adventure as they learn to balance themselves and not fall quite so often. Bean bags are soft and supportive at the same time. Outside liners have made sanitation a moot question.

Young children spill drinks, smear food, and have “accidents” until fully potty trained. The outside liner of a child bean bag chair is easily removed and thrown right into your washing machine. There are also fabrics that can be wiped off and easily kept clean. Many of the fabrics used for a little one’s bean bag chair are water and stain resistant. Considering that the chairs will be used by your children, you will want them to last a long time and be safe to use.

Child bean bag chairs come in any color your imagination can come up with and a variety of fabrics that will suit your sanitation needs as well as décor. The shapes that the chairs come in vary. Heart shaped and car shaped are very popular with kids of all ages. The styles, colors, and shapes are only limited by your imagination.

Your style can range from contemporary to country and there is a child’s bean bag chair that will fit into any theme you or your child can dream up. What fun it is for a child to be able to help decorate their own room with the soft and comfortable bean bag chair. The child can choose their own theme and feel as if they made a major contribution to their area they will call their own.

Shop around online and in furniture stores in your area to find the theme, color or style for a child’s room or play area. Children love these comfortable chairs and can enjoy playing with the chairs themselves. The child bean bag chair is light and easily moved. Your child may pick a favorite out of two or three different colors and that is “their” chair. Children love having items that are their own, and the bean bag chair is a piece of furniture they can actually move all by themselves without getting into trouble!

The construction of your little one’s bean bag chair is important. You are going to want to look for double stitched seams, foam filling for long lasting fluffiness, and a washable surface that repels water and stains. That all might seem like a pretty tall order, but most child bean bag chair manufacturers are using child safe and child durable materials. It never hurts to compare products and manufacturers. Some of the companies that manufacture children’s bean bag chairs offer a limited time warranty on their products.

Children from the age of toddler all the way up to their teens love bean bag furniture. Your child will be delighted with their very own bean bag chair. It will be just their size, soft if they fall against it, and easy for mom to keep it clean.

This discussion of dog health and dog safety is not just for the holidays. It is for every day of their lives.

I do not claim that the list below is a complete list of all the things you should be aware of to protect your pet. Most of it is just common sense.

A mistake involving any of the following items will probably create the need for an emergency trip to your vet and perhaps something even more serious.

If you learn just one thing that will protect your pet from illness, surgery or death then this writing will have been worth my time and yours.

The Christmas Experience and Pet Safety

Holiday plants: Mistletoe, Holly, Hibiscus and the ever popular Poinsettia can cause severe intestinal problems and worse. Please keep these plants out of the reach of your pet.

Electrical Cords: Some pets cannot resist chewing on the cords. These cords can be taped to the floor to discourage chewing. This may also prevent tripping by humans as well.

Christmas Trees: Some dogs enjoy chewing on your Christmas tree. Do not allow this.

Christmas Ornaments and wrapping material: Can be a major cause of choking.

The Fireplace: The warmth and beauty of our fireplaces at holiday time is cozy comfort for sure. Your fireplace and candles can cause problems if your pet is in the wrong place at the wrong time. A high degree of supervision is needed. A Hearth Gate, sometimes called a Fireplace Gate will solve this problem for children and pets.

The Tree: If you have a large pet then no decorating the tree with food items. Cover and protect the tree water basin so pets have not access at all. A bacterium in the tree water is harmful to pets.

Holidays Food and Pet Safety

The majority of women I have known have a gene that causes them to cook many delightful things during this time. They cannot help themselves. I can relate somewhat because in the spring I simply must plant something every year. There is food and drink for weeks around the house for family and for guests. Our pets would enjoy participating in this giant food fest but do not allow this. Always keep dog safety in mind. Taking a short look at some reasons why our pets need to be excluded from people food are;

Chocolate: Most of us know not to allow our pets to have chocolate, any chocolate at any time. Please be sure to keep all chocolate and candy products away, far away from your pets at all times.

Coffee: Contains chemicals that affect the urinary tract, the heart and their nervous system.

Uncooked food: Many times uncooked food may contain uncooked bones that can get caught in the throat not to mention a little something called E.Coli. Uncooked foods may also contain certain parasites which can cause ongoing hard to diagnose problems.

Rich and Fatty foods: The goodies we humans enjoy so much can be disastrous for pets. Have you ever heard your vet mention pancreatitis?

Uncooked yeast products: Dog health is negatively affected when uncooked yeast products are swallowed they can expand in the stomach and intestines as well as producing tons of gas. Too much gas and yeast related expansion can cause a rupture of the stomach or intestinal tract.

Macadamia nuts: This tasty nut gets the same warning as chocolate.

Grapes and Raisins: I remind you that grapes and raisins can cause kidney damage in your pet.

Onions and Onion Products: These are also hazardous to your pets.

Miscellaneous areas of concern for Pet Safety

Cigarettes and other Tobacco products: These products are extremely hazardous to pets. Just smoke outside, empty ashtrays and keep discarded filters away from pet areas.

Food Ties: This seems like a small thing but, the strings that hold that Turkey or Ham or Beef Roast together all tied up and looking so good can be ingested by your pet after being removed from the finished product. Should this happen you may be in for a surgical emergency on a holiday weekend no less.

Discarded Foil and Plastic wrap: We all know what a keen sense of smell our pets have. They can smell discarded aluminum foil or plastic wrap a mile away. If they manage to get into discarded foil, plastic and even candy wrappers ingestion could result in intestinal blockage. Again, surgery will be needed to remove the foreign matter. Cover your garbage and keep kitchens free from used cooking foil, plastic wrap and anything else your pet might decide to claim as their own.

Antifreeze: What would winter be like without another caution about antifreeze? It has a sweet taste, so I am told so every drop spilled should be wiped up and cleaned with soap and water to prevent your special friend from licking the spot. It doesn’t take much to cause a very serious problem.

Pet Anxiety: An important component of dog health. We should keep an eye out for our pets when guests are in our homes. Many pets cheerfully accept the additional people in the home but many do not. Our pets experience stress too.

There is nothing more important to Lancashire Rose Blinds than the safety of its customers, particularly babies and young children.

Lancashire rose Blinds is especially mindful of the issues of child safety when it comes to window coverings. The loops of pull cords, chains and bead cords are a potential hazard to young children who may become entangled in them. To avoid this possibility, we would like to share some ideas on keeping your children away from potential harm.

Keep your windows child-safe

Keep babies’ cots well away from windows, and ensure that all blind cords are out of reach. This may mean not placing furniture next to windows – toddlers love climbing! Also remember that as your toddler grows the can climb on living room furniture such as sofas, then they ahave acess to the cords. It only takes afew seconds left alone, for your toddler to get into mischief. We child proof our sockets to stop little fingers poking them, we child proof our stairs to stop little people climbing them, why do we forget our window blinds.

Reduce the hazard

It is important to be aware at all times of child safety around the home. An extra safety measure is the installation of a safety device that either removes the cord loop or limits access to cords. A A simple device is a child safety cord or cleat which is screwed to the wall, then the cord is wrapped around it, now little fingers can not get near them.

That is why ours are free

Lancashire Rose blinds are commited to child safety, that is wht eevry blind ordered comes with a free child safety cord. Even if you do not buy blinds from us you can still purchase a child safety cleat from our shop. Keep your child away from trailing blinds cord and keep them safe.

Millions of people own animals such as dogs and cats, in fact most homes that do have animals, have 2 to 3 animals per house per owner. If you are like me, and your pet isn’t just an animal but a special part of the family then chances are you feel the same way I do about my dog. We want to keep them as safe as we can, keep them healthy, feed them nutritional foods etc. One of the worst things that can happen if you own a dog or cat, is to have the animal either get out of the house or your yard somehow. In order to prevent this there are quite a few things you can do, but one of the best things is to get a pet containment system. These systems are put in place so that your dog or cat can safely be outside, but also have a watchful “eye” over them so to speak.

The containment systems aren’t like gates! Gates can be easily jumped over by cats, or dug through by dogs, especially dogs that love to dig! Instead, you set the perimeters for where you would like for your dog or cat to be able to go, then you play one of the collar transmitters on the dog. This is a sort of training product because if the animals tries to go out of the perimeter you have set, they will be halted with a warning tone or warning correction. *Note these corrections are not like electrotherapy. They will not hurt your animals, they are simply setting the boundaries for your animals.

Before you buy one of these pet containment systems its a really good idea to shop around at different stores as well as talk to a professional to ensure that this is the right product for your animal. If you want, you can check out the following sites below for more information as well as other things such as where to buy the system, how much it costs, etc:

Fido’s Fences

The Pet Store Online

Pet Safe

Secure Pets

Mighty Pets

In my opinion, which should rank high considering I love my dog, these are one of the best things to look into if you own an animal. They are safe, they have a warranty on them, and they keep your animal safe, which to me is the most important thing. Do yourself and your pet a favor and check into something like this!

Child proof locks are an essential part of making your home safe for children. There are certain things, such as small objects and cleaning supplies, that need to hidden from children. When they are small, it is enough to just put these items out of their reach. However, as they get older, they will be able to reach things. Some very tenacious children also end up learning how to climb which means they can figure out ways to get even higher. When things get to this point, it is important to purchase and install childproof locks to help give an added dimension to standard safety concerns.

The first thing you need to do is actually purchase the child proof locks. This can have many steps because you want to make sure you purchase the locks that will be the best. You don’t want a lock that will break or not do its job. That is why research is essential. After you do research on the best child proof locks your next step is to actually make the purchase. Figure out how many of these locks that you need and then buy exactly what you need. You may also want to purchase a few extras just in case you need them. You can purchase these locks online or in the stores. You may be able to find better deals online and plus shopping online is more convenient. The only drawback to buying child proof locks online is that you can’t take a look at them before you get them.

Once you buy the child proof locks your next step is to install them. For this you will need to follow the package instructions. Since each lock is made differently, there will be specific instructions devoted to that product. It will tell you what kinds of tools you need and exactly what to do. If you can’t seem to figure it out despite the instructions call their customer service department for assistance. When it comes to your child’s safety, buying child proof locks is essential. However, they will not work properly if they are not installed properly. That is why companies should be more than willing if you can’t figure something out.
